Description

This is the 1st video in the series Painting Children in Watercolour. It concentrates on the basic rules and advice, with a full demonstration included.  The demonstration is unique for me, in that I struggle with it.  It's worth watching because you will see how I cope with the difficulties.  The issue is the rather unusual paper.  It's a basic Winsor & Newton NOT surface watercolour paper from a pad.  They do not make it any more, but for portraiture on a small scale like this, it really is not suitable.  The paper is so highly sized and textured, that the surface repels the water and paint, making it extremely difficult to blend.  There is a second video where I paint a similar picture, but using a standard NOT surface and you can see how much easier it is to do.  I'd normally delete this kind of thing, but I think it's very useful to see how someone with a lot of experience deals with issues as they happen!

Video Length - 24 minutes
